This series of paintings in progress illustrate moments in the Rebbe Nachman tale, ‘The Lost Princess.’
Circles of Faith
The sages relate to faith as an energy that surrounds us, so we can hold onto it. Part of what largely inspires my practice is the desire to create items to be held to impart a feeling. These circle panels explore different themes that relate to faith, and spiritual endurance in challenging times. Included in these works are several mantras including ‘We don’t know’, ‘This too shall pass,’ and ‘We will build this world from love.’
New Vessels
In collaboration with Rabbi Rachel Bluth, I created new tiny vases & filled them with with weeds, greens, & flowers found in my neighborhood. After photographing the vases with mini bouquets, I digitally layered handwritten notes from Rabbi Bluth on the teachings of the 9th of Av. Our hope was to bring a sense of healing to a day of mourning.
Drawings on Release
These large scale drawings represent Jewish teachings on letting go. The opening fist was inspired by teachings I learned about the ‘Shmitta’ cycle from my residency with art kibbutz. The portrait drawing was inspired by the theme of exiting narrow spaces on Passover through our voice.
